December- Despite a slow month for events due to the holidays, I was able to attend a few events this month. On the 3rd I drove the Mustang in the annual Forest Ridge Hollyday Parade. There were over 3,000 residents including a large number of kids lined up along the parade route to look at all of the floats and cars go by. On the 4th I took the Mustang to the 6th annual Holiday car show in Pompano Beach. There were over 600 show cars in attendance and it was busy as usual with over 2,000 people in attendance. I also took the Mustang to the last car show of the year at the weekly Tower Shoppes Car show. I spoke with 300 kids and adults while there. The last event of the year was the 24th Annual Toys in the Sun Run and Car Show held at Markham Park in Sunrise. There were over 2,000 people that came out for the event during the time I was there. 2011 was the busiest year by far for the Davie Police Beat the Heat program. We ended up attending over 70 events throughout Florida and making our presence known to over 42,000 adults and kids at these events. Although it fell short of the 100 events I had planned for the year, changes at the Police Department forced me to cut back my schedule. I am also still dealing with little to no support from the police administration as they continue to have concerns over the potential liability of the program. I will continue to press forward and run the program as I have for the past 12 years now and hope to continue to make an impact on the street-racing problem in our community.
