So far in 2005, members of my crew and I have volunteered 100 hours to repair the car and trailer and perform any required maintenance. We have spent an additional 289 hours to attend events on our time without pay or compensation. In addition we have driven 4,916 miles so far this year to attend the various events. Here is what we have done each month with the program so far this year: January - Although the engine was pulled and sent to the engine builder for a thorough inspection, we did display the car at the Tower Shoppes car show. We spoke to approximately 100 kids and young adults. February - Unfortunately delays with our engine builder prevented us from making any races this month, but we continued to display the car at various events. We showed the car at two car shows in Davie and West Palm Beach. We also displayed the car during an open house at the Davie Police Department and at a show and tell for the Loxahatchee Groves Elementary School. Although we did not race, we did manage to speak to approximately 625 children and young adults during this month. March - Our engine continues to be delayed while we wait for a back-ordered part. We still continue to display the car until the engine arrives. We attended the Tower Shoppes Car show in Davie and spoke to approximately 100 kids. We also displayed the car at our Public Safety Expo and at an open house at the Davie Police Department, speaking to 350 kids. April - This months schedule had to be cut back due to my two-week active duty period with the Coast Guard Reserves. We attended the Tower Shoppes Car show in Davie and also displayed the car at the Jet and Truck nationals at Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach. We spoke to approximately 100 kids in Davie and another 300 kids at Moroso Motorsports Park. May - We displayed the car at the Tower Shoppes Classic car show in Davie and at a Village of Wellington, Florida, Public Safety Expo. We spoke to approximately 75 kids in Davie and another 400 kids in Wellington. Weather has prevented us from taking the car to the track so far this month. June - We displayed the car at the Tower Shoppes Classic car show in Davie and spoke to approximately 75 kids. July - We displayed the car at the Tower Shoppes Classic car show in Davie and spoke to approximately 75 kids. We also attended a test and tune session at Moroso Motorsports Park and spoke with another 50 kids while there. August - We had a very busy month, attending two displays and two local races. We displayed the car at the Davie Police Department for the annual National Night Out and spoke with 250 kids. We also attended the Hot Rod Sunday event at Moroso Motorsports Park and talked to another 200 kids. We attended another test and tune session and a local Bracket Race at Moroso Motorsports Park speaking to another 150 kids over that weekend. In addition we managed to make our fastest pass yet with the racecar, a 10.72@127mph. We also provided an interview for a local racers website, AshpaltTV.com. Look for video of some of our races on their website soon. September We spent most of this month making preparations to attend the annual Beat the Heat World Finals held in Shreveport, Louisiana on 9/16 and 9/17. First we attended a local Bracket Racing event held at Moroso Motorsports Park and spoke with around 100 kids about the program. The following week we loaded up and made the 1120 mile drive (one way!) to the World Finals. We ran a test and tune session on Friday night after displaying the car earlier in the day. On Saturday we competed in the Super Pro bracket racing class and the Pro Cop bracket class of the Beat the Heat World Finals. During the time runs we ran our fastest time ever of 10.67@126mph. We also won our first round of bracket racing! The car was consistent all weekend long and it appears that we have all of the bugs worked out finally. We also displayed the car at Streets Finest in Wellington, Florida for their weekly Dyno Shootout. There were approximately 300 kids on hand for this event. October We attended a Bracket Race and two test and tune sessions at Moroso Motorsports Park. We spoke to over 200 kids during these events. We also gave a lecture at Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Florida talking about the dangers of street racing and the consequences. Over 100 kids participated in this lecture including several known local street racers. We also displayed the car at Streets Finest in Wellington, Florida for their weekly Dyno shootout. There were around 300 kids in attendance for this event. Our scheduled Take it to the track event at Moroso Motorsports Park was cancelled due to Hurricane Wilma. We will be rescheduling this event at a later date. November We attended the Night of Fire event in Orlando in support of the Orange County Sheriffs Office Beat the Heat program. The Alachua County and Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office Beat the Heat teams joined us. Unfortunately this event was rained out after making only one pass but we spoke with approximately 175 kids while there. We also attended the three day Citrus Nationals at Moroso Motorsports Park and spoke to over 300 kids during the weekend. We managed to make our best pass ever, a 10.53@127mph, during the weekend. This was also the last race of the year and we will be starting routine maintenance on the racecar and trailer. Next season starts on January 14, 2006.
